CocoRosie

CocoRosie’s music—and, for that matter, its raison d’etre—revolves around shtick of an especially discombobulated and incoherent sort. Consisting of sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady, CocoRosie is either an art project that revolves around music or a musical act that thrives on inane theatrics. (It can be hard to tell which.) One of the sisters frequently performs with a drawn-on moustache, and both dress as if they raided a vintage shop while blindfolded. The band grew more coherent and focused on its 2007 album, The Adventures Of Ghosthorse And Stillborn, and last year’s Grey Oceans—its debut for Sub Pop—continues that process. It’s still bizarre, for sure, but CocoRosie’s baroque quirkiness has grown more palatable.
