Colbie Caillat
Colbie Caillat is the daughter of Ken Caillat, the producer of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, so at least she has a tangential connection to timelessly brilliant pop music. Her own records, however, haven’t been nearly as memorable. Caillat’s 2007 debut, Coco, was sold on the basis of the annoying hit single “Bubbly,” a light-hearted, Lilith Fair throwback about the “bubbly” feeling of newfound love. (Who’s cringing?) “Bubbly” is the kind of innocuous pap that lite FM stations love to run into the ground for decades, but there’s no guarantee that Caillat will be similarly enduring. Still, the new All Of You features a guest appearance from Common, proving Caillat isn’t afraid to at least try a few left-field gimmicks.
