Just when you think Cold Cave defies traditional songwriting, the Philadelphia-based band busts out with a set of seriously catchy hooks. Spearheaded by Wes Eisold—formerly of hardcore outfit Some Girls and the more electro-oriented Ye Olde Maids—the dark, synth-pop group has built a reputation for tight, experimental electro with a noise-rock undercurrent. Cold Cave began with a prolific start in 2007 with three releases—a demo and two EPs—and hasn’t slowed down much since. The band’s kept busy since with its debut full-length, Love Comes Close, a few limited-edition cassettes, and a collection of early unreleased tracks. This year, it’s kicking things off with the recent full-lengthCherish The Light Years, which features more epic synths, relentless beats and, of course, catchy melodies.
