Comet Gain

What do you get when you put a riot grrrl and a twee prince in the same room? The answer is Comet Gain, a UK group that banded together in 1993 and commenced many changes in members in the years since. With last month’s singles and rarities compilation, Broken Record Players, their sweet/hard dichotomy remains the same: saccharine, a little garage-y, and very pleasurable. Sounding sometimes like early Britpop janglers (think pre-Oasis, C86-compilation Britpop) and at others like a less polished Cardigans-style bounce, Comet Gain’s fun lies in creating tension with a tempered energy using any old instrument that happens to be lying around their practice space.
