Company Of Thieves

Chicago band Company Of Thieves once had the most perfectly succinct bio ever: “We met, we write, we’re trying.” It’s a likably humble attitude from a likably hardworking band, but unlike 99 percent of likably hardworking bands, “we’re trying” actually translated into a record deal. After signing the group, Wind-up Records re-released 2007’s Ordinary Riches. It’s a surprisingly mature record, though maybe that’s just due to Genevieve Schatz’s breathy voice. It recalls Regina Spektor’s, though Company Of Thieves plays a more straightforward type of alt-pop. Expect to hear some songs from the band nowadays that aren’t five years old, as in 2011 the band released its sophomore album, Running From A Gamble.
