Cool Devices

Raw, seething, and dripping with attitude without being sloppy, Cool Devices is a Chicago quintet that marks its frontman’s return to vicious rock. After an unpleasant split from his last rock group, The Means, Jason Frederick veered into acoustic-based balladry until a call from a journalist in late 2006 inspired him. The reporter was calling for a reaction on one of his former bands reuniting without him—which Frederick reacted to by turning his occasional collaborations with drummer Jim Duffy into a full-fledged band.
