Cory Branan
Throughout his teen years, Cory Branan was a card-carrying metalhead, frontman of a Black Sabbath cover band and all. But from there he turned to punk, and then folk, leading to his current status as a folk-rock singer-songwriter, which, considering how Bon Iver and Mumford & Sons scooped up about half of the Grammy nominations this year, seems to be a good genre to get into. Branan’s heavier, grittier roots really differentiate him from most of the bands pegged with the same labels. Although it’s been more than five years since the release of his last full-length, 12 Songs, Branan fans can swell up with excitement knowing he’s recently entered the recording studio with alt-country buddies from Drag The River and Lucero.
