Cotton Jones
Emerging from the ashes of folk-pop collective Page France, Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw’s Cotton Jones presents an evolution of their previous band’s sound, rather than a rejection of it. 2009’s Paranoid Cocoon splashed a druggy wash over Page France’s wide-eyed perspective, a modern-day take on Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra’s cowboy psychedelia that’s refined by 2010’s Tall Hours In The Glowstream. “Somehow To Keep It Going” finds Nau deepening the twang in his warbly baritone, while the record as a whole lifts the oppressively humid arrangements that swamped some of Paranoid Cocoon’s better songs.
