Cradle Of Filth

Cradle Of Filth

The exact subgenre Cradle Of Filth occupies is a hotly debated subject amongst categorization-happy metalheads. The discussion usually ends with the umbrella term “extreme metal”, which seems a little lazy. Not up for debate, however, is Cradle Of Filth’s legacy as metal gods. The band has growled, squealed, and double-kick-drummed its way into the pantheon of heavy metal icons, picking up where the best NWOBHM artists left off and incorporating the horror soundtrack-inspired strings of symphonic black metal. The concept behind Midnight In The Labyrinth, the band’s forthcoming 10th album, sounds appropriately insane: The band is reinterpreting tracks from its early releases in a style inspired by film composers like Danny Elfman and John Williams, and is set to include “choirs, strings, and some narration.”
