Artist Crash Test Dummies

  • Crash Test Dummies Alan Gastelum

Although cruel history long ago relegated Crash Test Dummies to the one-hit wonder bin, those few bars of “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”—sung in Brad Roberts’ familiar froggy croak and with his deliberately yawning pronunciation—persist as one of the most indelible sounds of the ’90s, capable of producing an instant flood of MTV-related memories. Dropping off the map fairly quickly after 1993’s breakthrough God Shuffled His Feet, the Dummies dropped their first album in six years, 2010’s Ooh La La. Judging by tracks like “Songbird” and “You Said You’d Meet Me,” the band’s morose baroque-pop still has the ability to entertain in spite of—or because of—its mild sedative effect.
