  • Cunninlynguists

Perpetually on the road tending their grass roots, Kentucky’s CunninLynguists are the embodiment of the hard-working hip-hop group. Producer Kno and MCs Deacon The Villain and Natti followed up the slinky funk of 2007’s Dirty Acres with the two-volume Strange Journey in 2009; the mix-tape-styled set takes a road trip through the group’s native South, with the second installment offering a darker and more sober vision of the world outside the tour bus window. 2011 saw the group release its fifth studio album, Oneirology, which continues the sobering lyrical trend. Not that these gathering storm clouds will rain on the group’s live parade—it’s still called CunninLynguists, after all. It’s just that some things the group’s tongues encounter are heftier than others.
