Curren$y

Curren$y

New Orleans rapper Curren$y spent years on the verge of artistic and commercial success, hooking up early in his career with hometown hip-hop entrepreneurs Master P and Lil’ Wayne. However, it wasn’t until he broke free of his big-name benefactors that he was able to actually release his first record, This Ain’t No Mixtape, in 2009. He’s been positively prolific ever since, releasing several studio albums and mix-tapes in little more than three years. It’s a ridiculous amount of material for any rapper, let alone one with such a narrow thematic focus—Curren$y raps almost exclusively about weed. A new LP with The Alchemist, Re-Conversionalize, hit the streets April 20 (Get it?), and Curren$y’s The Stoned Immaculate is expected to drop June 5.
