Cut Chemist's career has been characterized by adventurousness (that's what you call scratching over a Less Than Jake track, right?), but his latest mix, Sound Of The Police, is all about constraints. Working with a single turntable, a mixer, a loop pedal, and a crate full of hips-loosening world music, the DJ formerly known as Lucas MacFadden digs into grooves that even a MacBook-jockey with the entire Internet at his disposal couldn't produce. It helps that MacFadden finds freedom in his self-imposed chains, allowing room for mistakes and proving that spontaneity and serendipitous juxtaposition still count for something in the DJ game.
