Artist Cut Off Your Hands

Despite Hugh Jackman’s crack about New Zealand being a low-budget version of Australia during this year’s Oscars show, there’s no doubt the small island nation’s visibility had been boosted lately by Flight Of The Conchords. New Zealand’s Cut Off Your Hands might wind up helping too; the Auckland quartet has been building a small, steady buzz with its sharply angled, impetuously romantic indie pop. COYH’s debut full-length, You And I, doesn’t have the remotest trace of originality to it, but the disc possesses a quirky, Franz Ferdinand-esque abandon that doesn’t need to rewrite any books to pack a punch.
