Cyndi Lauper
Lest she be forever saddled with “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” Cyndi Lauper has been constantly switching it up over the last decade. She dipped into the standards pool on 2003’s At Last, whispering through “Walk On By” and purring over “Unchained Melody.” On 2005’s The Body Acoustic, she unplugged for duets with Sarah McLachlan, Jeff Beck, and Shaggy (!) that reinvented some of her best-known hits, only to return to the club a few years later with the dance-minded Bring Ya To The Brink. The 2010 album Memphis Blues is just what it sounds like: a Grammy-nominated collection of classic blues songs bolstered by appearances from Allen Toussaint, B.B. King, and Jonny Lang.
