D. Charles Speer & The Helix

D. Charles Speer & The Helix are a big bowl of Southern gumbo: Memphis twang, honky-tonk rhythms, pedal steel guitars, and deep, gravel-voiced ballads. On the heels of their third LP, the Thrill Jockey-released Leaving The Commonwealth, the band has left its Southern home and Brooklyn recording studio to tour the good ’ol U.S. of A. Like fellow label-mates The Fiery Furnaces, the members of the group throws in storytelling along with its tunes, lending a unique, episodic feel to each song.
