Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Like many of its contemporaries on the homegrown electronic circuit, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. has a Brian Wilson fixation. Unlike those other bands, however, the team of Daniel Zott and Josh Epstein keeps a decent version of “God Only Knows” in its repertoire, a reverent cover that builds from a voice-and-guitar duet to a cathartic climax of sighing harmonies, flickering sequencers, and splashing cymbals. That firm grasp on the Beach Boys’ crisp sounds and heartbreaking introspection acts as the main thread running through the duo’s shape-shifting folktronica on its full-length debut, It’s A Corporate World, which contradicts the band’s ironic image with full-hearted songs like “Nothing But Our Love” and “Simple Girl.”
