Dan Hicks And The Hot Licks
Dan Hicks offers tuneful, quirky folk-country-jazz-whatever-rock for fans with discriminating tastes. The favorable response to Hicks’ 2000 release, the cameo-packed Beatin’ The Heat (his first studio album since 1978), prompted him to head back out on the road. Endless touring helped bolster his popularity, and his resurgence came to a head with his 2001 60th-birthday concert, a night that included dozens of guests from his various bands. He followed Heat up in 2004 with Selected Shorts, which continued the parade of guests, including Willie Nelson on “One More Cowboy.” He kept on doing right by old-fashioned Western swing with the release of 2009’s Tangled Tales and 2010’s self-explanatory Crazy For Christmas.
