Colorado author Dan Simmons, known for his genre-crossing bibliography, returns with the newBlack Hills, a fictional historical account that twists in sci-fi and fantasy elements: Paha Sapa (which is Lakota for Black Hills) is a 10-year-old Sioux at the Battle Of Little Bighorn. As the battle rages, Paha enters the fight and charges General Custer, touching him just before his death. As Custer dies, his ghost moves into Paha’s body where it remains for the rest of the young warrior’s life, giving him unnerving, supernatural visions of the future.
