Daniel Clowes

Before it was a movie that most of us remember as the last time we saw Thora Birch, Ghost World was a critically lauded graphic novel featuring teenage girls milling around a TV-gray world, detachedly discussing their post-modern ennui. Since then, author Daniel Clowes has published a variety of very different books. Clowes has practically redefined the graphic novel as an art form, and as such has recently received the retrospective book he so richly deserves. The Art Of Daniel Clowes: Modern Cartoonist is a celebration of his work and features essays from contributors like Chris Ware and Chip Kidd and is in coordination with a traveling exhibit of Clowes’ work that opened in California earlier this spring.
