Artist Daniel Martin Moore

Kentuckian Daniel Martin Moore and his acoustic guitar quietly build a little nest among but apart from the many young artists picking up on singer-songwriter and folk sounds these days. Moore’s voice is more all-American-boy than Americana, and he embraces it with a subtle range that takes him from the straightforward melodies of his recent album Stray Age (recorded for Sub Pop after he sent the label an unsolicited demo) to sweetly crooned jazz tunes, like a cover of Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile.” In live sets and on Stray Age, Moore’s songs occasionally get some backing from upright bass, piano, vibraphone, or violin, but hold up just as well when stripped down to voice and guitar.
