Danielson
Without a doubt the most peculiar—and, in turn, the most interesting—musician who likes to praise Jesus in his songs, Daniel Smith has been turning indie-rock heads with his maniacal falsetto since issuing Danielson’s debut album, A Prayer For Every Hour, in 1994. Whether performing by himself or with his family (Danielson Famile’s Tell Another Joke At The Ol’ Choppin’ Block is arguably his finest hour), Smith specializes in thrift-shop rock with a tendency toward the celestial. Danielson’s latest record, Best Of Gloucester County, fits right into that trend, though it does sometimes toe the children’s music line, especially on tracks like “People’s Partay,” in which he sings the praises of both old people and buffets and encourages the whole world to get together and “conversate.”
