Danny Brown

Detroit hip-hop artist Danny Brown reveals his vices with erratic beats and an abrasive vocal delivery. His 2010 release, The Hybrid, and 2011’s XXX feature irregular melodies that sound like a drug-fueled producer picked up every tape on the table and threw them together into one track, making cuts at random intervals. But that’s not a bad thing. Ears eventually become used to Brown’s voice. Quirks that are initially maddening become interesting punctuation marks. His sense of humor becomes evident, with sometimes-absurd lyrics that don’t take themselves too seriously. There’s room in the rap scene for hipster, hip-hopper Brown and his concoctions.
