Washington D.C.’s Darkest Hour has survived for 17 years in the metalcore game, partially due to one simple truth: Of the bands trafficking in the much-maligned genre, Darkest Hour is one of the easiest to listen to. The band’s technical attack is tempered with melodic strains of death metal and twin-guitar fireworks, while frontman John Henry barks volume upon volume of apocalyptic verse in a way that’s intelligible, but still gives credence to dark lyrical content. The band delivered its latest set of anthems for the end of days, The Human Romance, in 2011.
