Artist Datarock

With a love of decades-old dance-rock, Norwegian indie electronic duo Datarock is a poppy revivalist in the vein of Of Montreal, except with a heavier leaning toward computer assistance. The group’s 2005 album, Datarock Datarock, is too eclectic to neatly summarize, but imagining Roger Daltrey fronting Talking Heads with songs written by Mark Mothersbaugh might come close. 2009’s Red has much the same energy, including a song whose lyrics are made entirely from Talking Heads titles (“True Stories”). That whimsical mentality’s set to carry over to “Catcher In The Rye,” the group’s new single due out this month, which comes packaged with a designer toy and 4GB USB drive packed with 105 bonus tracks, 1500 photos, 20 music videos, and an hour of concert footage.
