A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Dave Attell

  • Dave Attell
While other comedians shift from stand-up to sitcoms to find fame, Dave Attell became famous for simply being a drunken, lonely stand-up who roamed from bar to sewage-treatment plant to bar to 24-hour supermarket, all with TV cameras in tow. Attell is unmistakably a road comic, as documented throughout the four seasons of Insomniac on Comedy Central. Though he kept it somewhat clean for cable, Attell’s act is just as gruff as his gravelly voice––don’t be surprised by midget jokes, dick jokes, and, yes, midget dick jokes, which he’s probably leaning on more heavily after his brief stint hosting Comedy Central’s reboot of The Gong Show didn’t work out.
