David Johansen

Despite being largely known as the frontman of glam-punk pioneers the New York Dolls, David Johansen’s true originality comes from his chameleonic solo career. Following the Dolls' first break-up, Johansen released a self-titled solo album akin to the Dolls glittery-trash sound, but quickly moved on to dabbling in Motown R&B, traditional Americana, sleek dance-pop, and even lounge-lizard calypso under the name Buster Poindexter (You've undoubtedly heard the 1987 smash-hit “Hot Hot Hot.”). It’s Johansen’s voice that’s carried him through his diversions.
