David Vandervelde

David Vandervelde earned early comparisons to T. Rex madman Marc Bolan with his debut album,The Moonstation House Band. But the Chicago songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist took a turn away from glam-rock spaciness and toward straight-forward roots on his next record, Waiting For The Sunrise, a direction that continues on his recent single, “More Than You Can Feel,” a preview of what to expect from his upcoming Big Lies album that tumbles along with raw, ’70s-era Neil Young rusticity. No matter what branch of the classic-rock tree Vandervelde picks his fruit from, he’s demonstrated a prodigy’s ease with retro, riff-heavy rockers that somehow don’t seem overly derivative.
