A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Death Vessel

  • death vessel

Like labelmates Fleet Foxes and fellow tender folkies like Joanna Newsom, Death Vessel foregrounds the notion of singing and lets the other parts of songs fall into place as patterns dictate. Singer Joel Thibodeau sounds rather shockingly like a woman, but the effect of the disconnect fades once his songs—soft, tender, shambling, and with a rough-shod kind of energy—catch notice. Death Vessel's latest is a 2008 Sub Pop album called Nothing Is Precious Enough For Us.
