Del McCoury Band
Del McCoury got his start playing and singing for bluegrass legend Bill Monroe, and more than four decades later, he still possesses one of the genre’s top voices. His unforgettable singing and impeccable guitar work should be heard by anyone with even a passing interest in bluegrass. At the age of 73, McCoury shows no signs of slowing down: In 2009 he released a five-disc, career-spanning box set (complete with newly recorded material) and his band’s 11th studio album, Family Circle, which featured new songs written by Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler and country hitmakers Shawn Camp and Jim Lauderdale. In 2011, the band teamed up with New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band for American Legacies, a record that presents folk classics with a Cajun twist.
