Delta Spirit rides at the forefront of a wave of indie bands playing sweaty, energetic revival country that occasionally takes on a gospel aesthetic. Last year's Ode To Sunshine is a muggy, stomping, piano-pounding blast, alternately bellowing with soul (“People, Turn Around”) and rolling along at its own grooving, clickety-clack clip (“Trashcan”). It's 100-percent earnest and 100-percent compelling, which is probably why everyone from Dr. Dog to Cold War Kids have taken the group on tour, and Jimmy Kimmel recently had Delta Spirit play on his late-night TV show.
