Devo
An art-school band that became a new-wave icon almost by accident, Devo started out with a mind to mock the “de-evolution” that technology set in motion, getting by on geeky obsessions; robotic dance moves; and clanging, pent-up electronic pop. The band’s 2010 effort, Something For Everybody, was its first new studio album in 20 years—and true to lead single “Fresh,” it finds Devo’s analog angularity and tongue-in-cheek satire sounding more vital than it has since 1982’s Oh No! It’s Devo. The band’s comeback was temporarily halted following a hand injury suffered by guitarist Bob “Bob 1” Mothersbaugh—though the spud boys fulfilled their obligation to last fall’s Moogfest with the help of The Octopus Project.
