Dinosaur Jr.

Dinosaur Jr. leader J Mascis is one of the most influential alt-rock figures ever, which meant that as the ’90s rolled by, there was less and less for him to prove. He eventually retired the name and made some ho-hum records with Fog, but the 2005 reunion of Dinosaur Jr.’s original trio—rounded out by Lou Barlow on bass and Murph behind the drums—seemed to give Mascis a new sense of purpose, resulting in the 2007 comeback album Beyond and 2009’s Farm, put out by no less a hip taste-making indie-rock label than Jagjaguwar. The band’s latest, I Bet On Sky, is due out this September, and the band has scheduled a run of dates around the release.
