Disturbed

Unlike the quickly assembled copycats that came from nowhere to cash in on the nü-metal fad, Chicago’s Disturbed actually had some history before it broke through in 2000 with The Sickness: The group formed on the city’s South Side in 1997, where it developed a strong following. The Sicknessand its follow-up, 2002’s Believe, leaned more toward metal than the rap-rock of peers like Limp Bizkit. The group’s newest album, 2010’s Asylum, is slightly darker than previous releases, and draws its inspiration from diverse and decidedly left-field sources—“The Animal” is a nod to the 2010 remake of The Wolfman; “Old Friend” is dedicated to the titular character of Dexter; and “Never Again” tackles the Holocaust.
