A name like DJ Vilas Park Sniper might sound like a hardcore techno artist to the initiated, or a scary Madison assassin to the average person reading a flyer on the street. But Nathan Foulks is neither. His first love on the turntables is reggae (he has a regular gig spinning at the Jamaican-themed nightclub Jolly Bob’s) and it’s many subgenres, like dub—Foulks even expresses his dream of meeting legendary dancehall DJ, Super Cat, on his MySpace page. This suggests a lot more fun than oppressive beats in his sets, and Vilas Park Sniper’s willingness to stray outside of his personal favorites to deliver mixes incorporating hip-hop and electronic shows that he’s, first and foremost, an entertainer eager to please the city where he’s from.
