D.L. Hughley followed a well-established path for ’90s comedians, moving from stand-up to HBO specials to a sitcom. The Chris Rock-produced The Hughleys became a critical hit, and Hughley saw added success on the Original Kings Of Comedy tour and its accompanying film by Spike Lee. Despite (or perhaps due to) an attention-grabbing episode where Hughley said the 2008 Republican National Convention “looked like Nazi Germany,” his most recent foray into television, D.L. Hughley Breaks The News, joined the ranks of other canceled Hughley vehicles Weekends At The D.L. and Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip in March 2009. Hughley’s latest gigs have been as the coach on the underwhelming TBS comedy Glory Daze and as an inmate on Hawaii Five-O. Well, at least he has more time for stand-up.
