This Week Ted Leo And The Pharmacists cover Tears For Fears

Artist Doug Benson

Never underestimate the addled-yet-concentrated influence of stoners: Comedian Doug Benson has turned his sizable pothead following—planted off-Broadway with the popular The Marijuana-Logues, cultivated by his 2006 High Times “Stoner Of The Year” award, and harvested then packed in tightly in his 2007 documentary Super High Me—into a bleary-eyed cult. But Benson isn't just an ordinary “pot comic.” It’s just that he makes dropping the quick-witted meta-humor and silly observations of his 2009 CD, Unbalanced Load, sound ridiculously effortless—like he’s simply exhaling quips between bong hits—even though their construction could only have come from a sharp and sober mind. Benson’s as good a model as any for marijuana legalization as any.
