Doves

Part of a distinctly British wave of dance acts that traded electronic frequencies for straight-up rock, Manchester band Doves made Stateside waves with 2000’s moody, hook-drenched Lost Souls and The Last Broadcast, a strong follow-up marked by sunburst melodies tipped toward The La’s and early My Bloody Valentine. The sound is more or less standard Brit-rock that won’t blast any new veins in the mine, but Doves does it better than most—especially on Kingdom Of Rust, a new yet familiar-sounding album whose title may or may not be a comment on the relevance and creative health of the band itself.
