Even while leading Colorado punk outfit Armchair Martian throughout the ’90s, Jon Snodgrass wore his country heart on his sleeve. Starting Drag The River with neighbor Chad Price of All seemed like a front-porch affair, but the instant chemistry was undeniable: Price’s sweet twang was the perfect foil for Snodgrass’ gruff rumble, in that Tweedy-versus-Farrar kind of way. The full lineup has been in rotation over the past decade, and a few extended hiatuses dot Drag The River’s history, but in spite of it all, the group has put out more than a dozen records and EPs since its inception. A greatest-hits album, appropriately titled Primer, came out late last year, and features studio tracks as well as live and cover material.
