Droids Attack
Madison trio Droids Attack is the kind of metal band that stays the riff-laden course, counting on the essentials that have driven the genre since it grew out of amped-up blues-rock. The band also has its eccentricities, matching its Sabbath-loving side with the guttural attack of punk and younger heavies like Big Business, and embracing such themes as video games and killer robots. DA's third full-length, Must Destroy, keeps up the stoner-rock M.O.: Guitarist Brad Van compulsively fires off blown-out hooks and amusing song titles ("The Great Wall Of 'Gina," "Canadian Death Bus"), and the band as a whole keeps its head above the sludge with a charge of rhythmic variety.
