Duff McKagan
Duff McKagan is well known for his long and drug-addled stint as the bassist for Guns N’ Roses, but his reputation has been bolstered of late by an unexpected passion for economics. McKagan received a degree in the subject after Axl broke up the band, and now he contributes a personal finance column to Playboy. The stated mission of the column? “To educate, and to bring down the man.” Admirable, to be sure, but it’s a shame that neither of those tenets applies to his music. In addition to playing for the bloated Velvet Revolver, McKagan tours with his own band, performing glammy metal that wouldn’t seem out of place during the last major recession—in 1987.
