Dwarves
Dwarves began as a garage outfit before growing to embody the most aggressive and satirical side of hardcore punk. A four-year stint on Sub Pop helped to give name to Dwarves’ lucid, loud, and delinquently versed sound, starting as it did with the gore-strewn cover of Blood Guts & Pussy. With a lineup currently revolving around vocalist Blag Dahlia and guitarist HeWhoCannotBeNamed (who, contrary to the hoax that got the band dropped by Sub Pop, was not stabbed to death prior to the release of 1993’s Sugarfix), the on-again-off-again act is on once more thanks to 2011’s The Dwarves Are Born Again, a proudly filthy set that seems alarmingly enthused with pop-punk.
