Dying Fetus

Maryland’s Dying Fetus pioneered a union of death metal and grindcore in the early ’90s, taking complex structures from the former and blast-beat aggression from the latter. What started as a hybrid of genres has thickened through the years into a scabrous whole: 2007’s War Of Attrition suffered anything but attrition as it bled and grunted its way through guttural anthems of socio-political disgust. Last year’s Descend Into Depravity offered nothing new—and that’s a good thing. Dying Fetus is nothing if not consistent, and hardcore fans shouldn’t have any complaints about the album’s unyieldingly brute technical efficiency.
