Artist Early Day Miners

Even if you’ve had it up to here with beard-heavy indie-folk guys, you’ve got to pay proper respect to Early Day Miners for playing weirded-out Americana years before it was the go-to soundtrack for shopping-mall boutiques. Combining old-timey mountain music with keyboards and free floating sonic strangeness, the Bloomington, Ind., band has brought various musicians into the fold to join main members Dan Burton, Rory Leitch, and Joseph Brumley. After releasing five records in six years in the first half of the decade, Early Day Miners took three years before releasing this year’s The Treatment, a beautiful record and a fine introduction to the band.
