Earth Crisis
The New York straightedge hardcore scene had become pretty brutal by the early-’90s, but the movement hit its extreme in Syracuse, breeding ground of Earth Crisis. The band’s growling, thunderous condemnation of carnivores, vivisectionists, and drug users bordered on evangelical, yet Earth Crisis crossed over into the underground metal realm by the mid-’90s with classics like Destroy The Machines and Breed The Killers—and unwittingly helped set the stage for the metalcore of today. After a six-year hiatus, the group returned in 2009 with its fifth album, To The Death.
