HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Artist East Of Edens Soul Express

Typically, soul isn’t rocking from most bar turntables these days. However, go to a bar or club where local DJs John Ciba and James Porter are spinning discs, and that’s all you’ll hear. With a shared interest in Southern soul and Chicago’s black music scene in the ’60s and ’70s—coupled with a few chance meetings at shows and record stores—Ciba and Porter united five years ago under the name East Of Edens Soul Express to spin classic soul jams. Ever since, the duo has spun tunes from acts like Johnny Ross and Joe Chopper all over town, including the Hideout and Panchos, where they have begun a new monthly residency.
