Edwyn Collins

Edwyn Collins

Sadly, Edwyn Collins can no longer play the scratchy strums that characterized his work with Orange Juice or the signature riff from his biggest hit, 1994’s “A Girl Like You.” With a little help from friends young (members of Franz Ferdinand, The Cribs, and The Drums) and contemporary (Johnny Marr, Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera), however, Collins was able to complete 2010’s Losing Sleep, his first collection of new songs since a 2005 brain hemorrhage. A record of recovery and rehabilitation, Losing Sleep is imbued with pop-enthusiast spirit, sardonic wit, and genuine appreciation for those who helped Collins through a difficult period in his life. It’s proof that “The sound of young Scotland” endures even through tragedy.
