Efterklang
Danish ensemble Efterklang garnered acclaim for its 2004 debut, Tripper, which—much like the band’s Icelandic soulmate Sigur Rós—patiently built layers of orchestral swells over subdued electronic beats while carefully minding the silent spaces in between. On 2007’s Parades, it traded that icy meticulousness for an anthemic pomp and circumstance more along the lines of Arcade Fire, emphasizing conventional indie-pop ebb and flow over post-rock sprawl. That new formula finds both its apex and nadir on 2010's Magic Chairs, where the layers of chamber-pop strings, brass, and woodwinds and spectral choral vocals feel noticeably reigned in and politely conventional.
