Ekoostik Hookah
What it lacks in unique sound and non-cringeworthiness, Ekoostik Hookah makes up for in longevity and fan loyalty. On the scene for nearly 20 years, this Ohio-based jam band dabbles in psych rock, funk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, and four-hour sets. An anonymous fan bankrolled the band’s first studio album, Under Full Sail, in 1991, and it has been touring and recording ever since, albeit with some band-member rotation. Hookah’s most recent album, 2007’s Under Full Sail: It All Comes Together, brought original vocalist and guitarist John Mullins back into the mix and lived up to the band’s reputation for giving fans a variety of sounds—some of them not totally horrible—to choose from.
