Eleanor Friedberger
The Fiery Furnaces’ little sister has a lot of catching up to do: Since 2003, the sibling duo has released 14 albums, with big brother Matt writing and performing most of the material. Not to mention, he also has eight solo albums under his belt, all of which were released in the last year. Those are intimidating numbers, but the female Friedberger doesn’t seem worried—on “My Mistakes,” the gorgeous first single off her 2011 solo debut, Last Summer, Eleanor proves she’s a pop-tunesmith and one of the best singers around. “I thought he’d let me in for one last time,” she sighs, with all the cool and sadness that gave weight to her brother’s sometimes nonsense lyrics, capping off with a melancholy that only a sax solo can provide.
